Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Timeline for Housing and Residence Life

2007
  • The Housing and Residence Life Inclusiveness Committee was formed.
2009
  • The first Tunnel of Oppression was held and implemented by our department for all of campus to partake in. 
2015
  • Tunnel of Oppression had over 1,000 participants.
2016
  • Human Library started.
  • Single-person bathroom spaces were identified in Waits and Foster to de-sex/gender single bathroom/shower rooms. 
  • Launched Inclusiveness Newsletter.
  • Inclusiveness began investigating disaggregated data regarding marginalized communities in the residence halls.
2017
  • The Cultural Connector program launched its pilot program in six of our residence halls.
  • The Graduate Assistant for Multicultural Enrichment was created to support Cultural Connectors and acted as a split position with Fraternity and Sorority Life. 
  • Launched Inclusiveness Bulletin Board Competitions.
  • Launched Diversity Rubric for Skyfactor.
  • Launched RA Training Diversity Day.
2018
  • All residential communities received a Cultural Connector.

2021
  • The HRL Inclusiveness Committee expanded its work to include:
    • Table Talk sessions, monthly dialogue sessions for Resident Assistants surrounding diversity, equity, and inclusion topics.
    • Implement Hall Director trainings in partnership with our Hall Director Training Committee and their First Friday programming.
    • Heritage and History Month programming for all residential students.
